Which one do you need?
Scratch the floor lightly with a coin in a closet corner, then look at the worn areas. If the finish is scuffed but the wood colour looks the same as under the couch, a recoat will do. If the worn areas look grey, bare or blackened, the finish has worn through and the wood needs sanding.
If you're changing colour, fixing damage, or the floor has had wax or a polish like a “mop and shine” product used on it, you'll need a full sand. Recoats don't bond to waxed or polish-coated floors.
